Centre for Maritime Studies
Since the beginning of 2011, the Centre for Maritime Studies (Building F) is used for navigational and technical training and education. The maritime research and training facility contains 33 modern training and seminar rooms, six ship command simulators including bridge and radar simulators as well as one engine simulator, all with numerous CBT and 3D-Animations.
Ship Command Simulator

With its 6 bridges the ship command simulator creates a highly realistic training environment for various bridge and deck scenarios on modern merchant vessels. Nautical situations on various types of ships in a variety of maritime areas can be simulated in real time, enabling our students to realistical experiences and learn crucial parts of ship command, including navigation, maneuvering, collision prevention, VTS, bridge management, ECDIS, GMDSS etc.. Our students learn new technical and practical standards of ship command, maritime traffic management and maritime traffic safety exceeding the STCW standards by far.

Engine Simulator
The ship engine simulator SES 4000 replicates all crucial components, including auxiliary systems of a ship engine and offers real time simulation of the various processes taking place in a real ship engine room.
Chart Room
In addition to electronic navigational aids our students are taught to work with nautical charts with realistic and practical tasks.
EDP Training
Our students have access to state of the art computer workstations. This is where our future deck officers receive training in loading programs, voyage planning and ECDIS systems.
Machinery room
Practical experiments on auxiliary systems take place in our machinery room. This is where our students receive training on pumps, filters, air-conditioning units, heat exchangers and other auxiliary systems. Furthermore, the measured results are subject of detailed evaluation and failure analysis.
With the modern facilities and equipment in our own laboratory our students get acquainted with oil and water treatment, chemical coherences, experiments and analyses which will be part of their everyday routine on board.
